Brazil Federal Police Report Reveals Coup Plot to Overthrow Government
The Brazil Supreme Court has made the Federal Police’s report on a coup plot accessible to the public.
The report indicates that evidence gathered during the investigation shows former President Bolsonaro’s involvement in a coup plot to overthrow President Lula da Silva’s government.
The report, which highlights Bolsonaro’s “active participation” in the said coup plot, mentions that the coup could not be carried out due to the military’s resistance.
On November 19, the police arrested 4 soldiers and 1 police officer for allegedly planning to assassinate President Lula da Silva and overthrow the government.
Furthermore, on November 21, the Brazil Federal Police filed charges against 37 individuals, including former President Jair Bolsonaro, for attempting a coup against the Lula da Silva government.
The police report, extending to 2022, includes several high-ranking officials, including Bolsonaro, some generals, former ministers, and government advisors.
In response to the accusations, Bolsonaro criticized Judge Alexandre de Moraes on his social media account, stating, “Judge Alexandre de Moraes is conducting the entire investigation alone; manipulating statements, issuing arrest warrants without complaints, conducting extensive searches to find possible evidence, and showing a very creative side.”
